Description

Ichibancha (First Harvest) Gyokuro is a Japanese Gyokuro green tea from the Gokou cultivar developed and grown in Kyoto, Japan.

Gyokuro, or “Jade Dew” is a fine Japanese green tea variety that is shaded before harvesting; this will naturally boost the levels of chlorophyll in the leaf- this produces a unique, deep and sweet cup of green tea. Our Gyokuro Gokou was carefully shaded for an extended 30 days before harvesting, as opposed to the standard 20 days.

It is a minimally processed and mostly unsorted gyokuro which means it includes some smaller leaf particles and could be referred to as an “Aracha Gyokuro”.

This type of organic farmer's style gyokuro has become popular over recent years and is very much in demand because rather than being fertilized with big doses of nitrogen, heavily processed, blended, and sorted by teashops like other gyokuro teas are, this organic gyokuro takes a more natural approach and remains true to its origin.

Once steeped, the vibrant jade liquor has a balanced buttery umami taste with notes of fresh cut grass, with a light seaweed and kelp "feel". Enjoy our gorgeous Gyokuro Gokou.

I often find green teas too weak tasting but this one is stronger which I like. Nice vegetal and buttery taste.

Fantastic tea! Beautiful colour, aroma and flavour. This tea is strong tasting but not overpowering and surprisingly delicate. Already a favourite of mine :)

I sometimes find Japanese green teas to be too strong but I really enjoyed this one! I find myself craving it in the morning. Lovely flavor, not bitter at all, very vegetal aroma, bright green color.

You can really taste a difference from extending the shading period. It is pure umami!
